University of Antwerp

The University of Antwerp is at the forefront of cutting-edge metabolomics research, spanning metabolomics, exposomics, and computational biology. The Toxicological Center, led by Prof. Adrian Covaci and Prof. Alexander van Nuijs, is internationally recognized for its expertise in mass spectrometry-based exposomics, metabolomics, toxicology and wastewater-based epidemiology. Prof. Kevin Lamote, from the Laboratory of Experimental Medicine and Pediatrics, pioneers research in volatilomics, advancing breath-based clinical diagnostics. The Adrem Data Lab hosts the research groups of Prof. Kris Laukens and Prof. Wout Bittremieux, who are pushing the boundaries of computational mass spectrometry and data-driven metabolomics. The NatuRAPT lab, led by Prof. Nina Hermans and Prof. Emmy Tuenter, is active in the isolation and identification of biologically active substances from medicinal plants, natural products, and functional foods using mass spectrometry. With its diverse expertise and strong commitment to innovation, the University of Antwerp is a key contributor to advancing metabolomics research in the Benelux region and beyond.
