Head of the Mass Spectrometry Core
dr. Gertjan Kramer
Mass Spectrometry is a core technology in both Metabolomics and Proteomics. The Laboratory for Mass Spectrometry of Biomolecules (SILS-UvA) provides research support to scientists looking to apply metabolomics or proteomics analyses in their research. We provide support and advise from project inception to data analysis.
The laboratory uses state-of-the-art LC- and GC-MS to support a wide range of (untargeted) metabolomics-, lipidomics and volatomics-analyses. Our embedding as research core facility in the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences means we have ample experience in analysis of samples from mammalian/human (Neurobiology & Cell and Systems Biology), plants/insects/rhizospere (Green Life Sciences) and microbiological/microbiome (Microbiology) backgrounds.
The core facility laboratory houses several state-of-the-art high-resolution LCMS platforms and hosts mass spectrometry platforms (LC- and GC-MS) suited for high-throughput targeted analysis for a variety of compounds including volatiles. The core facility also provides access to advanced metabolomics/lipidomics sample preparation facilities and advanced metabolomics/lipidomics-data analysis pipelines. Data storage and long-term archiving infrastructure and support for publishing datasets into public repositories are in full compliance with RDM and FAIR guidelines.
If you are interested in making use of our expertise in your projects, do not hesitate to contact us.
