The Laboratory of Applied Mass Spectrometry – Metabolomics Expertise Center from KU Leuven has joined the NMC. Bart Ghesquière is appointed as Full Professor at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, KU Leuven and as head (expert technologist) of the Metabolomics Core Facility, Center for Cancer Biology (CCB) and VIB Technologies, VIB. In this role Bart Ghesquière is leading the LAMaS Group, (a team of 16 researchers) and is providing service to metabolomics-oriented research groups as well as developing his own research lines focusing on technology (method development, software and hardware) as well as biology (profiling metabolic disorders/syndrome). The core technology is based on tracer metabolomics providing straightforward insights into the relevant metabolic pathways (“Google Maps of Biochemistry”), as such revealing not only the (in)activity of biochemical paths, but as well their interconnectivity in a wide variety of circumstances.
